History you can join in
Turning city history into an experience: Stadtspur came about because we wanted to tell a city's history playfully as well, with puzzles, real historical figures and a story that pulls you right through the city. It all starts with Passau. The rally was developed by a historian and certified city guide using the latest digital technology. More cities will follow.
What is a city rally?
A city rally is a self-guided city exploration: a set route, puzzles at real places, your pace. You are among yourselves, you need no fixed date and you start whenever you like. The city itself becomes the game board.
Stadtspur goes one step further: historical figures accompany you as audio guides, every puzzle is set at a real location and a story connects all the stations. The result sits somewhere between a guided tour, a scavenger hunt and an escape game, just outside, in the middle of the city.
Why Passau?
It all starts in Passau, and for good reason. Alexander von Humboldt is said to have counted the City of Three Rivers among the seven most beautifully situated cities in the world. After the great town fires of 1662 and 1680, Italian master builders rebuilt the old town, which is why Passau still feels a little like Italy today, with narrow lanes and baroque squares.
The city has stayed young, too: around 11,000 students live here, one of Europe's most important river cruise ports is right on the doorstep and the Danube Cycle Path to Vienna starts on the riverbank. The entire old town is walkable, perfect for a rally where every puzzle is set at a real place.
